Definitions First
The generator explores language from a different angle by starting with meanings instead of only showing bare word lists.
It currently includes over 540,000 English dictionary entries, with filters for part of speech, tags, language stage, and length.
How It Works
Random Lexicon samples eligible dictionary entries and shows the word with a definition, part of speech, language stage, tags, and pronunciation when available.
Filters narrow the candidate pool before the random pick, so choices like nouns, rare tags, archaic entries, starting letters, and word length shape what can appear.
What It Is Good For
Use it for writing prompts, naming ideas, vocabulary discovery, word games, classroom exercises, creative constraints, and quick API test data.
Data Source
Definitions come from Wiktionary through Kaikki.org, so unusual formatting or surprising wording usually reflects the source dataset.
Word Pages And Search
Generated word pages are shareable, but Random Lexicon keeps search discovery focused on the generator, about page, three-word tool, and API documentation.
